Lawler family. John Lawler married Ellen Farrell b. 1851, Ellen was Jas. Farrell's sister and they emigrated to Australia n 1864. Ellen Farrell married John (Jack) Lawler in Orange in 1873. Jack, like the Farrells, was a native of Kilkenny, Ireland, and migrated to Australia about the late 1860s. Jack and Ellen made their home in Byng Street, There were 10 children of the marriage. No names were listed on the photo. If I was to guess, the 3 youngest in order, Agnes, John and Annie.

Elizabeth Reedy b. 1857 married Jas. Farrell in 1882. Gran is sitting outside the original house on Emmaville that was knocked down in the mid 1920s.

Mary Edwards (nee Fisher) b. 1891 was the sister of Helen (Nell) Farrell.

Emmaville cottage was the original home for James (Jas.) Farrell and his family. Then in 1925, Bob and Nell Farrell. In the early 1950s rented out to Rigney family, then Jim and Alma raised their family there, and finally Mark and Keiren roomed there in the 1970s and 80s. It became a store room later for Waratahs. It was finally restored and moved to the Orange Botanic Gardens in the second decade of the 2000s.

Eric Rigney worked at the Orange Lands Office with Margaret Love (nee Farrell). When he was looking for accomodation for his family, he was offered the Old House at Emmaville which he then rented for several years. Robert Kevin (Bob) Farrell ended up buying bthe car in the photo from Eric.
|
Paul Rigney was the son of Eric Rigney who rented the Old House in around 1952 after he took up a position with the Dept of Agriculture as a Herd Recorder, based in Orange. Their family had moved from Bathurst to Orange and almost certainly rented the Old House because Margaret made him aware it was available to rent.

Paul Rigney was the son of Eric Rigney who rented the Old House in around 1952. The Rigneys moved in in March/ April 1952. They were ther for 2 years. In Eric's records is a transaction "Purchase of lino 10/7/1952 - 18 pounds 6 pence ". It is reasonable to assume the lino purchased was for Emmaville Cottage, probably in lieu of rent.

Bob left (Robert Kevin Farrell b.1927) spraying in the orchard with his brother Jim (James Joseph b.1931). The horse draw spray cart was later converted to a tractor pull. The vat took an hour to empty and only sprayed a few hundred trees.
